The challenge
Cribl.io, a forward-thinking software company, confronted the challenge of transitioning from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4. The company operates multiple websites and encountered difficulties in merging and understanding user behavior across all platforms.
Their existing infrastructure consisted of individual Google Tag Manager containers and Universal Analytics properties, leading to complications in tagging maintenance, event tracking inconsistency, and overall low data quality.
The approach
To address these challenges, we embarked on a migration process for Cribl's websites to Google Analytics 4. This entailed an extensive review of their present infrastructure and the establishment of an efficient, process-focused methodology for tagging in Google Tag Manager. In addition, we assessed their event tracking to unify data collection across all websites, including cribl.io, docs.cribl.io, info.cribl.io, curios.cribl.io and community.cribl.io, into a single Google Analytics 4 property.

We commenced with a comprehensive audit of Cribl's existing Universal Analytics configuration, pinpointing key components for the migration. From this groundwork, we designed a custom solution that guaranteed a seamless migration of these components to GA4, including the integration of tracking for Cribl's multiple domains. We managed the implementation and QA process, ensuring that all components were operating optimally in the new environment. To complete the project, we offered enablement training, equipping Cribl's team to fully exploit the benefits of GA4.
The results
Cribl successfully migrated from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4 with our support, retaining key tracking capabilities while unlocking GA4’s advanced features. This included consolidated website data and unified tracking across multiple domains, offering a more comprehensive view of user behavior.
